In the weekend I needed a map of Wanganui to locate a street. This led to the discovery that wises.co.nz has been updated. The improvements are impressive. Now you can get driving directions, the distance you’ll have to travel from point A to B, plus the time it will take! And the route you’ll need to take is marked on the map. I had a bit of fun playing with it for a while. Yeah, yeah – I know .. but it was a quiet Sunday!

The map is a lot easier to move and magnify as well. This will be really useful for visitors to New Zealand, locals looking for locations, or even ICT Facilitators (frequently lost) attending meetings and conferences in other cities! Neat, eh?

Maps are fascinating things – past present and future mashed up into one docuemnt. The Wises update makes for an easier user interface but I also enjoy Zoomin http://www.zoomin.co.nz/ when trying to find out “where am I?”, and “where am I meant to be?”.
Doesn’t help the “who am I?” stuff though.

I steer clear of ‘who am I? It’s like that ‘why’ question and could do my head in! Thanks for the ZoomIn link, Arti. I took a look and I see that my house can join a group. I noted that it hasn’t done that yet – it’s not very social apparently.
